Faculty of Forestry and Wood v succeeded in a tough competition and gained a grant of almost CZK 250 million from the Call 02_15_003 "Excellent Research Teams" from the Operational Programme Research, Development and Education. The project is planned for the period 2017 - 2022. Faculty will be able to create an excellent international scientific team led by top scientist from partner university from Sweden, and to secure necessary modern infrastructure for building excellent science. The team will focus on solving current and future challenges in forest ecosystems in the Czech Republic caused by climate change and finding scientific solutions to protect forests as carbon sinks.
The goal is the research on: bark beetle-conifer tree interactions using genomics, transcriptomics and proteomics, and to prove genetics, metabolomics (chemical ecology) and tree physiology-bark beetle interactions on tree-landscape level. Major outputs will map the typical disturbance regimes and design the mitigation strategies to manage them.
