Can I “axe” you a question? “Wood” you like to gain new insights in forestry and/or wood science? Are you looking for “tree-mendous” experience abroad while learning something new? Take part in “From Plant to Plank” Summer School, that will take place in June 2021 in Prague!

Basic information

The summer school consist of two weeks. Participation is only one of the weeks is possible but participating in both weeks is encouraged.

Participants of both weeks will obtain 4 ECTS.

Participants will be working on projects during both weeks.

  • Forest Week – June 7 – 11, 2021

Come discover the beauty of Czech forests! The first week of the summer school, Forest Week, will be dedicated to the comprehensive functions of forests and how the climate change affects the precious forest ecosystems. We will take a look on forest cultivation with close-to-nature approach. As part of the balanced programme, we will also experience the work of Czech foresters and explore new takes on recreation in forests. There are also interactive field trips planned for the participants, to the forests, of course!

  • Wood Week – June 14 – 18, 2021

During the second “Wood” week, our main interest will be in wood processing, wood products, wood construction and so on. We will build on previous week and focus on the connection between forestry and wood processing industry. We will focus on the new trends and approaches in woodworking. The programme will also include excursions. For example, we will explore the Czech capital city, Prague, and discover what beautiful wooden constructions are built there.

Accommodation and lunches will be arranged by the faculty.

The arrival dates are June 5, 2021 or June 12, 2021, respectively.

 

Provisional programme

Will be added soon. The programme reflects the pedagogical and research activities of the faculty with emphasis on Central European region.

Application

You can submit your application by filling out this application form by April 30, 2021.

After your application is submitted, an email with instructions for paying the administration fee will be sent to the email address indicated in the application. The administration fee for participating in one week of the summer school is 150 EUR. The fee for participation in both weeks is 200 EUR.

Data provided to CZU by applicants and participants in connection with the summer school will be processed in line with GDPR. More information on data processing are available here.

Costs

Administration fee will cover accommodation, lunches and snacks. Students will pay for their travel expenses, breakfasts and dinners. If applicable, visa costs are also to be covered by the participants.

Visa and Insurance

Please note that processing short-term visa applications by the Embassies in third countries (countries outside EU) remain suspended due to Covid-19 pandemic, i.e. it is not possible to apply for short-term visa in third countries! Consult with your local Czech Embassy if you are able to come to the Czech Republic, prior to your application for the summer school. Applicants are responsible for ensuring legality of their own stay.

Participants are required to have health insurance that covers illnesses and accidents for their entire stay.

Restrictions and measures in force due to SARS-CoV-2 pandemic

Participants are advised to follow the updates on the travel restrictions connected to entry to the Czech Republic. We recommend to follow the webpage of Czech Ministry of Health.
