The most important international activity of FFWS in 2014 took place on August 25 - 30, 2014 in Prague under the auspices of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Czech Republic in the City Conference Center, Pankrác. It was a worldwide important IUFRO conference focused on genetics and forest tree breeding. The organizer was FFWS CULS in Prague in cooperation with IUFRO WP "Breeding Theory and Progeny Testing". The conference was divided into five fields. It was attended by 170 guests from 35 countries. The guarantor of the conference was prof. Ing. Milan Lstibůrek, Ph.D., Who is also the coordinator of the organizing group IUFRO. In the list of invited lecturers were the most important personalities of the forestry-genetic field:
- Theory of breeding and breeding strategies: prof. Y. A. El-Kassaby, University of British Columbia, Kanada; prof. D. Lindgren, Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences Sweden; prof. G.R. Hodge, North Carolina State University, USA.
- Evolutionary genetics of forest trees: prof. M. Lascoux, Uppsala University, Sweden; Dr. M. J. M. Smulders, Wageningen UR Plant Breeding, Nederland.
- Genomics of forest trees: prof. B. Tier, University of New England, Australia; prof. D. B. Neale, University of California, USA; Dr. D. C. Nelson, Southern Institute of Forest Genetics, USDA Forest Service, USA.
- Methods of statistical-genetic evaluation: prof. L. Apiolaza, University of Canterbury, New Zeeland; Dr. G. Dutkowski, Plant Plan Genetics, Australia.
- Breeding programs - current overview: prof. S. McKeand, North Carolina State University, USA; Dr. Alvin Yanchuk, Ministry of Forests, Lands and Natural Resource Operations, Canada.
The conference also included expert workshops: PlantPlan Genetics and VSN International, both focused on genetic-statistical evaluation, EVOLTREE satellite meeting, IUFRO working group of “Breeding Theory and Progeny Testing”, two specialized excursions: Krkonoše National Park and Sofronka Arboretum and social program including a tour of Prague.
