The faculty initiated a fundraising campaign to help communities affected by the tornado in the South Moravian Region. As part of this effort, FLD contributed CZK 50,000, while faculty members, students, and friends of the faculty collectively donated nearly CZK 150,000. The total amount was handed over to educational institutions in the villages of Hrušky and Moravská Nová Ves. Beyond financial aid, FLD, in cooperation with the University Forest Enterprise in Kostelec nad Černými lesy, provided two truckloads of sawn timber from the sawmill operation in Jevany to the affected communities, helping them with reconstruction efforts. We deeply appreciate everyone's contributions and solidarity in supporting those in need!
FLD's Solidarity in Action: Supporting Our Partner Forestry School in Ukraine
The Faculty of Forestry and Wood Sciences also organized a donation drive to support its partner forestry school in the Ukrainian city of Khust. Thanks to the involvement of our faculty members, students, and friends, we were able to respond to the school's request for material assistance, which was successfully delivered to Ukraine.
You won‘t run away from the Dean, or Forestry 15
Beyond the spirit of competition, this event was also about giving back. Thanks to the proceeds from the entry fees, we raised CZK 10,000, which was donated to support the Children’s Home in Sázava. Your participation directly contributed to this meaningful cause, and we are incredibly grateful for your support!
Tree planting during Matyáš Novak concert
Our woodworkers in particular are familiar with the cooperation between our Faculty and MATRIX a.s. holding on projects in the field of wood processing and its surface treatments. On 10th July 2022, this cooperation expanded to the field of arboriculture. Our Faculty provided a dawn redwood seedling (Metasequoia glyptostroboides) for the newly established arboretum at Hotel Studánka, which belongs to MATRIX a.s. holding. The seedling was prepared by FLD Arboretum curator Ing. Václav Bažant, Ph.D. The CEO of MATRIX a.s. holding, Ing. Libor Burian, MBA and the Dean of our Faculty, Prof. Ing. Róbert Marušák, PhD. took part in the planting ceremony. We believe that this cooperation will develop successfully and the collections in the arboretums will be mutually enriched in the future.
Site of Remembrance at Motol Hospital – tree of life
The Institute of Anatomy of the 2nd Medical Faculty of Charles University opened a site of remembrance entitled „Tree of Life“ on its premises. In cooperation with the FLD CZU, a lime tree was chosen, as this tree symbolically connects the world of the living and the dead at cemeteries. The Tree of Life will carry small wooden leaves on the branches with the first names of donors so that they will never be forgotten for future generations. The site of remembrance thus reminds us that, even after death, a generous deed can be done and help by donating the body for scientific and education purposes. Relatives of donors can come to this place to remember, and students can come to pay tribute to those who helped them in the study of the human body. The donor programme currently includes almost 500 donors, most of whom are.
Support of the Jedlička Institute in Prague Sports Club
In mid-December, a check for CZK 25,000 was handed over to a representative of the Jedlička Institute in Prague Sports Club. Financial sup- port consisted of contributions from Vltava Run runners, Faculty management, and other Faculty staff. The Faculty has been providing this financial support for several years.
Adoption of a European elk from the Prague Zoo
The COVID-19 pandemic has affected all sectors. Due to government measures, zoos have lost in- come from admission, which is used for animal care. That is why our Faculty decided to help and adopt an animal for one year. Four species that are in some way associated with the Czech Republic were pre-selected: the Eurasian wolf, the European elk, the black stork, and the European bison. Voting on the FFWS Facebook profile decided which ani- mal our Faculty would eventually adopt. The vote was in November last year and almost 900 fans took part. The clear winner was the elk with a total of 459 votes, 157 more votes than the wolf in se- cond place. In 2021, the elk will become the animal symbol of the Faculty. We thank all the voters for their help with the selection and we hope that visi- tors can return soon to Prague Zoo.
Supporting the DUHA company
The aim of the DUHA company is to work with adults with mental disabilities to expand their opportunities in various areas of life. Supporting DUHA by purchasing a painting became a traditional affair. The painting is ceremoniously handed over at the FLD Christmas Concert and is used for faculty New Year's cards. The author of the painting is also invited to the Open Days together with deputies of the company. The faculty also buys small ceramic products from the DUHA company as promotional material.
Motol Hospital in Prague

Cooperation with the PTL, s.r.o. company
The PTL, s.r.o. company employs disabled people. This company ensures the promotion of the faculty via the internet and social networks throughout the year.
MaRUNka charity run
We also support the MaRUNka charity run, which takes place in Besednica. Money from the entry fee and donations from sponsors serve as a financial gift in favor of AutisCentrum, o.p.s.
VLTAVA RUN - our teams of faculty staff and students run for a good thing
Since 2015, our faculty teams have been running every year in the VLTAVA RUN race. Under the motto "Together for a Good Thing", we participated in the ČEZ Foundation project in order to help disabled children. During the race, we are collecting points and after the race, we changed them into the help. For example, in this way we have already helped to Jakub from the Jedlička Institute in Prague, who suffers from muscular dystrophy and has been in a wheelchair since he was 4 years old. We ensured a laptop and a cell phone to him. From these races, we also supported sports club of the Jedlička Institute in Prague.
Afforestation after bark beetle calamity
