The Faculty of Forestry and Wood Technology of the CZU in Prague has received support for an international project called Re-Enforce co-financed by the Interreg Central Europe programme.
Nine partners from the Central European region are participating in the project aimed at developing a transnational strategy for the restoration of degraded forests. The strategy, which will be tested in six pilot actions across the Central European region in different forest types and evaluated at several levels. The pilot actions are areas damaged by climate change, increasing disturbances (droughts, bark beetles, fires and storms) or unsustainable forest management practices. They will help researchers study the causes of degradation and provide a test bed for nature-based solutions. A common understanding of the causes of degradation and possible nature-based solutions is a step forward in harmonising nature conservation policies in Central Europe.
FLD is working on this project as a project partner together with 8 other partners from 8 European countries. The Austrian Research Centre for Forests is acting as project coordinator.
