The Faculty of Forestry and Wood Sciences at the Czech University of Life Sciences in Prague has received support for a cross-border project called SNĚŽNICKÝ ZWORNIK II, co-financed by the Interreg Czech Republic-Poland 2021–2027 program. The aim of the project is to improve the condition of protected areas in the central part of the Hrubý Jeseník Mountains in the Praděd National Nature Reserve, with a cross-border extension to Králický Sněžník, the Králický Sněžník National Nature Reserve, the Śnieżnik Kłodzki Regional Nature Reserve, and the Jaskinia Niedżwiedzia Regional Nature Reserve. This will only be achievable through cross-border coordinated monitoring of the natural environment and tourism, species support through visitor management and natural environment management that is close to sustainable management (mowing and grazing of alpine meadows; barriers to control tourist movement supplemented by information boards). Coordinated information gathering for more effective care of protected areas will lead to increased forest resilience to climate change and support for protected and endangered species and their protection from the negative impacts of climate change and overtourism. The project will result in cross-border, expert protection of the shared natural heritage in the border region, which has extraordinary potential for the continued development of sustainable tourism and mitigation of the regional impacts of climate change on the ecological stability of the landscape.
FLD is working on this project as a project partner together with 2 other partners from the Czech Republic and Poland. The main coordinator of the project is the Nature conservation agency of the Czech Republic.
