NatuRISE will establish an integrated framework for comprehensively assessing the societal and environmental benefits and costs of nature restoration across sectors, stakeholder groups, spatial scales and time horizons. The project will combine observational and survey data, meta-analysis using newly developed large language model tools, and integrated landscape, land-use and socio-economic modelling.
Case studies covering freshwater, forest and agricultural ecosystems will enable the models to be validated jointly with stakeholders and support the development of a ready-to-use decision-support tool. The tool will provide transparent and traceable assessments of restoration benefits and costs for use in business plans and policy frameworks, supporting the implementation of the EU Nature Restoration Regulation and national restoration plans.
