Preparation of new Ph.D. programs has started

The members of Faculty of Forestry and Wood Sciences have started activities related to the preparation of two new Ph.D. study programs: Global Change Forestry and Fire Protection of Forest, Timber and Wood-Based Materials. The activities are implemented as part of the project Preparation of new research study programmes at Faculty of Forestry and Wood Sciences financed by the Operational Program Research, Development and Education.

In the framework of the preparation of program Fire Protection of Forest, Timber and Wood-Based Materials, the foreign expert prof. RNDr. Danica Kačíková, PhD.  from the Slovak University of Zvolen visited the Faculty. The Professor contributed with very valuable knowledge and experience in the area of ??fire protection to the meetings with the representatives of the Department of Wood Processing. The information will be fully used to prepare the accreditation for the program.

In order to gain further valuable experience, two of our employees (Prof. Ing. Jaroslav Holuša, Ph.D. and Mgr., Karolína Lukášová, Ph.D.) visited two partner institutions in Poland.

As part of the PhD study program, legal regulations and the organization of the forest fire protection system were carried out with the staff of the Forest Fire Protection Laboratory in Warsaw (Instytut Badawczy Leśnictwa). The new program was also introduced and discussed at a meeting with the General Directorate of State Forest in Warsaw (with Chief Executive Officer: Konrad Tomaszewski and representatives of fire protection).

As part of the Global Change Forestry study program, the Forestry Research Institute in Warsaw (Instytut Badawczy Leśnictwa), Forest Protection Department have been established. In particular, the impact of climate change on forest ecosystems, new methods of analysis and their integration into a new study program were discussed. In the area of northern Poland, new forest protection issues related to climate change and water conservation in the countryside have been demonstrated. In conclusion, the Tatra National Park in Zakopane presented the issue of wind and bark beetle calamities, and co-operated with the head of the mountain forest department at IBL in Krakow Wojciech Grodzki to prepare study materials for the Global Change Forestry program.
