On June 27, 2025, a group of nine PhD students and one postdoctoral fellow from the Faculty of Forestry and Wood Sciences, Czech University of Life Sciences, took part in an educational excursion to the Kostelec forest drought experimental plots. Led by Associate Professor Ivana Tomášková, the visit offered a firsthand look at the unique rooftop-based drought experiment established in the area. Participants learned about the experimental design, the manner in which the drought was induced using the rooftops, and the data being collected using state-of-the-art instruments for measuring sap flow, soil moisture, etc. There were fruitful and insightful discussions about the broader implications of the research for future projects on forests and drought.
The excursion provided an excellent learning opportunity and sparked meaningful discussions among early-career researchers. Special thanks go to Vice-Dean Tomáš Kušta for securing the funding that made the trip possible. Organized by KAMOŠ, this marks the first such excursion by the group, and hopefully the beginning of many more to come.
