Original name:
Smart application for predicting the abundance and prevalence of the castor bean tick in forest ecosystems (KlíšťApka) I. Development of a smart application for predicting the abundance and prevalence of the castor bean tick in forest ecosystems II.
On Wednesday 17th June, a press conference for the Tick App (Klíšťapka) was held in the Atrium of the Faculty of Economics and Management; it was created with the support of the Forests of the Czech Republic by the Faculty of Forestry and Wood Sciences of CZU, Faculty of Economics and Management of CZU, Faculty of Science of the Palacký University Olomouc, National Institute of Public Health, Czech Forestry Society, and Forestry and Game Management Research Institute. The Tick App provides the public with information about the occurrence of ticks in forest stands and can serve as a prevention of Lyme disease infection. Media interest in the new app was enormous; we were visited by reporters from TV Prima, TV Nova, Czech TV, Czech Radio, Radio Impuls, the newspaper Mladá Fronta Dnes, and many others.
"The application is based on the analysis of 28,276 ticks caught in forests throughout the Czech Republic in 2021 and 2022 and includes data on the species composition of the vegetation, habitat, tick dynamics during the year and weather. Due to the large volume of data, the map only shows forest areas according to the ÚHÚL ČR with tick presence in a defined location," said the head of the scientific team and principal investigator of the project Ing. Zdeněk Vacek, Ph.D. from FLD ČZU.
