Virtual tour of the Bohemian Switzerland National Park

A catastrophic forest fire hit the Bohemian Switzerland National Park in July 2022. By the natural standards of the Czech Republic, it was an exceptionally large fire, affecting an area of more than 1,000 hectares of forest. The introduction of new technologies into forestry practice, such as the use of drones, also proved effective in extinguishing it. Drones proved to be the most suitable method of monitoring the fire area, as the use of helicopters increases the risk of blowing out latent fire outbreaks.

One of the project outputs is an interactive virtual tour of the fire scene of the Bohemian Switzerland National Park. The uniqueness of this output lies in the fact that the park can be visited by people with disabilities who cannot physically visit the forest areas. The tour is also available to the general public and students, because in this case the public was completely banned from entering for security reasons. This is a unique opportunity to see the national park and see its condition immediately after the fire. Footage of the extinguishing of this large-scale fire can be seen in a documentary film titled Forests of the Future.

Here is the virtual tour.
