Deadwood is a key element of forest ecosystems in terms of supporting invertebrate biodiversity. This study focused on saproxylic beetles, specifically examining different forms of deadwood – lying and standing. The findings can significantly contribute to effective forest management, especially in light of the growing efforts to enrich forest stands with deadwood to promote biodiversity. However, for forestry enterprises, optimizing these interventions remains a crucial aspect. The study demonstrated that standing deadwood is an indispensable component of beech forests. It plays a vital role in maintaining high species diversity, particularly among Red List of threatened species, and significantly contributes to the overall biomass of saproxylic beetles. One possible way to increase the proportion of standing deadwood in managed forests is by creating so-called high stumps, which provide suitable habitat conditions for these organisms.

Je pozice mrtvého dřeva důležitá pro saproxylické brouky?
Mrtvé dřevo představuje klíčový prvek lesních ekosystémů z hlediska podpory biodiverzity bezobratlých živočichů. Tato studie se zaměřila na saproxylické brouky, a to konkrétně z pohledu různých forem výskytu mrtvého dřeva – tedy ležícího a stojícího. Výsledky výzkumu mohou významně přispět k efektivnímu lesnímu hospodaření, zejména s ohledem na rostoucí snahy o obohacení lesních porostů mrtvým dřevem za účelem podpory biologické rozmanitosti. Pro lesnické podniky však zůstává zásadním aspektem optimalizace těchto zásahů. Studie ukázala, že stojící mrtvé dřevo je nepostradatelnou součástí bukových lesů. Sehrává klíčovou roli při zachování vysoké druhové diverzity, zejména u druhů zařazených na červeném seznamu, a významně přispívá k celkové biomase saproxylických brouků.
