LIFE Adapt Brdy project shares its experience with forest adaptation across the public sector

Sharing experiences from the LIFE Adapt Brdy project with other experts and institutions is one of the project’s key pillars. Therefore, two thematically focused workshops for stakeholders were held in June, with the goal of sharing practical insights from the adaptation measure implementation and promoting their use in other regions as well.

The first workshop was intended primarily for state forestry officials, particularly representatives of the Central Bohemian Region. The second meeting was attended by representatives of the Nature Conservation Agency of the Czech Republic, specifically foresters from all protected landscape area administrations. Participants had the opportunity to learn about the project’s results both in the field and during expert presentations.

The workshop program presented a comprehensive approach to adapting forest ecosystems to climate change: from cultivating species-rich and resilient forest stands, through restoring the landscape’s water regime and modern game management, to promoting biodiversity and addressing the economic aspects of forest management. The program also included a field excursion to demonstration sites in the Brdy Highlands, where participants saw the implemented measures in action.

Sharing experiences among forest owners, nature conservation organizations, and public authorities is an important prerequisite for the successful adaptation of Czech forests to changing climatic conditions. The LIFE Adapt Brdy project, in which the Faculty of Forestry and Wood Sciences at the Czech University of Life Sciences in Prague serves as a project partner, thus fulfills its goal not only of implementing innovative measures in the region but also of transferring the acquired know-how to other expert partners and promoting its broader practical application.
