The LESYpreKLÍMU project, focused on forest adaptation to climate change in the border regions of the Czech Republic and Slovakia, is successfully nearing completion. Another milestone was the third workshop on the Czech side, which took place within the competence of the Luhačovice Forest District. The main objective of the project is to identify and validate innovative approaches to implementing close-to-nature solutions and measures. A key role in this is played by utilising the natural potential of forest ecosystems and their processes, with an emphasis on protecting and enhancing the uniqueness of the natural environment.
The third workshop took place on May 28 and 29, 2026. It included field demonstrations and presentations of preliminary results from the implementation of water retention measures and silvicultural activities at demonstration sites. The goal of the workshop was to foster expert discussion among participants based on the measures presented in forest stands and to support the transfer of the acquired experience into forest management practices and other areas. As is traditional, the program also included expert presentations by project partners and invited specialists. Discussions took place over both days, both in the field and during technical lectures, which lays a solid foundation for disseminating the project’s ideas and confirms the importance of cross-border cooperation in addressing the impacts of climate change on forest ecosystems.
The project represents a unique example of cooperation among experts from multiple countries in seeking solutions to climate challenges. Thanks to close-to-nature approaches and pilot measures, it delivers concrete solutions that contribute to the long-term resilience of forest ecosystems in border regions. The project is not only a step toward nature conservation and mitigating the impacts of climate change, but also an inspiration for further initiatives focused on sustainable development and international cooperation in the Central European region.
The project, titled “Close-to-nature solutions for adaptation of forests to climate change” (acronym: LESYpreKLÍMU, No. 403201DJP9), is being implemented under the Interreg Slovakia–Czechia program. The total project budget is 1,551,816.73 euros. The project is coordinated by Lesy Slovenské republiky, s.p., in cooperation with partners including the National Forestry Center, Lesy ČR, s.p., and the Faculty of Forestry and Wood Sciences at the Czech University of Life Sciences (ČZU).
