The Faculty of Forestry and Wood Sciences CZU in Prague has joined a new project supported by the “Sustainable Tourism and Biodiversity Enhancement” Programme under the second Swiss contribution. The project was officially presented during the Programme’s kick-off meeting, which took place under the auspices of the Czech Ministry of the Environment in late April 2026 in Prague.
The main objective of the project is to mitigate the fragmentation of forest habitats and increase their connectivity for selected groups of organisms. Practical measures will be implemented in cooperation with Forest of the Czech Republic (LČR, specifically LZ Konopiště), Forest CZU, and the Křtiny School Forest Enterprise (ŠLP). The project focuses on supporting biodiversity and strengthening the connectivity of individual habitats within the landscape.
The project also includes collaboration with a Swiss partner (Swiss Federal Institute for Forest, Snow and Landscape Research WSL) and the sharing of expertise in nature conservation, ecological forest management, and long-term biodiversity monitoring. The project integrates research, practical landscape management, and international professional collaboration.
The kick-off meeting agenda also addressed topics such as sustainable tourism, landscape connectivity, public communication, and the long-term sustainability of project activities. The meeting created an opportunity for collaboration among universities, government agencies, professional institutions, and international partners.
